As part of the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services’ Behind the Ready campaign, the department is highlighting the dedicated team members who support emergency management before, during and after disasters.
Emergency management is often the work the public does not see, but it plays an important role in keeping communities prepared, informed and ready. From coordinating resources to helping residents understand how to prepare, each role helps strengthen the county’s ability to respond to emergencies and support recovery.
Behind the Ready: Teddy Bierman
Teddy Bierman, an emergency management analyst with Emergency Services, helps oversee the department’s warehouse and coordinate resources that support communities before, during and after emergencies.
From preparedness supplies to critical response resources, Teddy’s work helps ensure the right tools are available when they are needed most. His role is a reminder that emergency response does not begin when disaster strikes. It starts with planning, organization and preparation.
Sunny days vs. stormy days: Anjila Lebsock
Anjila Lebsock, assistant director of emergency management, also shares a preparedness message as part of the campaign. In her video, she uses a simple but meaningful comparison: sunny days and stormy days.
Sunny days represent the time before a disaster, when individuals, families and communities have an opportunity to prepare, make plans and build a strong foundation. Stormy days represent the moments when emergencies happen and that preparation is put into action.
Her message is clear: the best time to prepare is before the storm.
Preparedness can look different for every household. For some, it may mean building an emergency kit. For others, it may mean reviewing insurance policies, making a family communication plan, signing up for emergency alerts or learning more about local hazards.
Through the Behind the Ready series, Emergency Services is pulling back the curtain to show the people and work behind emergency management. Together, these efforts help keep San Bernardino County prepared, informed and ready before, during and after disasters.
