San Bernardino County Human Resources has received five 2026 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards recognizing innovative programs that expand career opportunities, support employees’ financial well-being and improve the delivery of county services.
Among this year’s award-winning initiatives is the SPARK Youth Employment Program, a paid six-week program that connects San Bernardino County residents ages 16 to 24, including foster youth, with hands-on work experience, mentorship and professional development. Participants gain valuable workplace skills while exploring careers in public service and learning how county departments serve the community.
Three employee financial wellness initiatives were also recognized: the Financially Well Experience, Salary Savings Webinar Series and Salary Savings Summit. These programs provide county employees with access to financial education, retirement-planning resources and guidance from trusted professionals. Supporting employees’ financial well-being helps build a more stable, informed and prepared workforce that can continue providing quality services to residents.
The Classification Request Portal also earned national recognition for modernizing the way classification and compensation requests are processed. Developed in-house using existing technology, the portal reduces paperwork, improves accuracy and streamlines approvals, helping county departments operate more efficiently and respond more effectively to workforce needs.
These awards highlight San Bernardino County’s commitment to innovation, workforce development and responsible public service. Through these programs, Human Resources is helping to prepare the next generation of workers, support county employees and strengthen the services provided to communities across the county.
