Office of Emergency Services hosts digital open house for Hazard Mitigation Plan

The San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services is updating its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP), which identifies hazards that could affect communities across the county and outlines long-term strategies to reduce risks before disasters occur. The plan also helps the county and participating jurisdictions remain eligible for certain Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) hazard mitigation grant programs.

As part of the planning process, the Office of Emergency Services is inviting residents, businesses, local organizations and other interested community members to attend the first of three digital open houses for the 2027 MJHMP update.

The first digital open house provides background on hazard mitigation, why the plan is being updated, and how the planning process will help the Office of Emergency Services and participating communities identify and reduce risks from future hazards.

It also provides several opportunities for the public to share experiences and perspectives that can help inform the plan. Participants can:

Learn more about the hazard mitigation planning process and why the plan matters.
Add locations to the Hazard Experience Map where they have experienced or observed impacts from hazards.
Share a story describing how a past hazard event affected them, their family, neighborhood, business or community.
Explore additional opportunities to provide input throughout the planning process.

Community input is an important part of the MJHMP update. Information shared through the digital open houses and other engagement activities will help the planning team better understand where hazard impacts have occurred, how hazards affect communities across the county and what residents believe should be considered as the plan is developed.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the digital open house and share their input. To learn more about the MJHMP update and take the public survey, please visit the project website. The deadline to complete the survey has been extended to Sept. 30.
