Yucaipa Regional Park wraps up swim season with Doggie Poolooza event
San Bernardino County Regional Parks is excited to bring back the special end-of-summer swim event, Doggie Poolooza, at Yucaipa Regional Park for small dogs on Saturday, Sept. 12 and big dogs on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This weekend event is designed to allow smaller and larger dogs to enjoy the pool area on separate days while ensuring their safety.
To enter the swim complex, dogs must be at least 6 months old, have a current license and updated vaccinations. Small dogs are considered 24 inches or shorter and large dogs are considered 25 inches or taller.
Owners will be asked to sign a waiver as proof of current dog vaccinations upon check-in. Park admission is $15 per vehicle and admission to the swim complex is $5 per person and $1 per dog.
Park admission is free for those camping; however, the pool fee will still apply for swim complex entry.
Regional Parks are open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Sept. 18. Yucaipa Regional Park is located at 33900 Oak Glen Road in Yucaipa.

County Library invites residents to explore, connect and create during Session 4
The San Bernardino County Library invites residents of all ages to learn, explore, connect and create during Session 4, now underway at library branches throughout the county. Through Sept. 27, residents can take part in a wide variety of free programs, activities and learning opportunities for children, teens, adults and families.
From storytimes and early literacy activities for young learners to line dancing, astronomy programs and crossword activities for adults, Session 4 offers something for nearly every age and interest. Each program is designed to give residents an opportunity to discover a new skill or hobby, spend time with family and friends, meet others in their community and experience more of what their local library has to offer.
“Libraries are more than places to find great books,” said Library Programs Coordinator Elizabeth Williams. “Our branches are gathering places where people can learn, participate, build connections and have fun. Session 4 is a great opportunity for residents to explore everything their local library has to offer.”
Programs and schedules vary by branch and may include educational and recreational activities, cultural experiences, technology opportunities, literacy programs and activities the whole family can enjoy.
With 32 branches serving communities across San Bernardino County, residents have plenty of opportunities to find a program that sparks their interest.
“Whether you’re looking for a fun activity with the kids, an opportunity to meet your neighbors or simply a chance to try something new, your local library has a place for you,” Williams said.

County Library unleashes a roaring good time with Get Wild About Reading
Things are about to get a little wild at the San Bernardino County Library as branches across the county invite residents to Get Wild About Reading this September, a monthlong celebration packed with opportunities to read, explore and earn some roar-some rewards along the way.
Designed to turn every library visit into an adventure, Get Wild About Reading encourages children and families to prowl the shelves, discover new stories and explore everything their local library has to offer. From special branch events to limited-time circulation incentives, there will be plenty of reasons to let your love of reading run wild this September.
Families attending a Get Wild About Reading event can join the fun while stocking up on their next great reads. Customers who check out 15 qualifying items during a participating event will receive a special circulation incentive and an entry for a chance to win the grand “jungle” prize. It’s one more reason to prowl the shelves, discover something new and let your love of reading run wild.
The excitement continues Sept. 12–25, with a separate, limited-time circulation incentive. Customers who check out 30 qualifying items at a participating County Library branch can earn a wild animal Squishmallow, while supplies last.
Customers will have six adorable designs to choose from: fox, capybara, red panda, giraffe, raccoon and mallard duck. Whether they’re feeling foxy, reaching for new reading heights like a giraffe or simply quacking open another great book, customers can make it their mane mission to return, check out more materials and collect all six.
“We’re always looking for creative ways to make reading exciting and encourage families to discover everything their local library has to offer,” said Program Coordinator Elizabeth Williams. “Get Wild About Reading gives our customers another fun reason to explore new books, participate in programs and make regular library visits part of their family routine.”
The September celebration is part of the County Library’s ongoing effort to make reading and learning engaging, accessible and fun for residents throughout San Bernardino County. With 32 branch libraries, customers can explore thousands of books and other materials while discovering free programs, resources and experiences for all ages.

Get crafty and let the fall fun spin at Regional Parks
There’s something in the air at San Bernardino County Regional Parks! Celebrate the changing season with a Fall Wind Spinner arts & crafts activity at Prado, Cucamonga-Guasti and Mojave Narrows Regional Parks.
Crafters can create and decorate their own colorful wind spinner using their favorite fall colors and designs, then watch it twirl and turn in the breeze. The hands-on activity offers a fun and creative way to explore wind, motion and energy while making a seasonal decoration to take home.
All supplies will be provided while they last, and all ages are welcome. Leashed pets are welcome too. Don’t leaf without joining in — it’s sure to be a whirlwind of fall fun!

Saddle up for a good cause: The Sheriff’s PRCA Rodeo is coming to town
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Rodeo returns this September with four days of live entertainment, professional rodeo competition and family activities.
Festivities kick off Thursday, Sept. 24, with a public concert featuring Niko Moon and Ashley Felton. The three-day PRCA rodeo follows Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27, featuring bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding and more. Families can also enjoy activities including a mechanical bull, rock climbing, pony rides and a petting zoo.
Rodeos have been part of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department tradition since 1957. Over the years, the event has grown to become one of the richest three-day PRCA rodeos in Southern California.
More than a community tradition, the Sheriff’s Rodeo is a nonprofit charity event that gives back to the community. With support from sponsors, volunteers and attendees, the rodeo raises funds for charitable causes benefiting local youth and organizations that support families affected by cancer. If you plan to attend the concert or the Sheriff’s Rodeo this year, tickets and pre-paid parking can be purchased at SheriffsRodeo.com.

59th Annual Calico Days celebrates Calico’s silver mining traditions
San Bernardino County Regional Parks and Calico Ghost Town will celebrate the 59th Annual Calico Days from Sept. 26–27 with a weekend of Old West activities and entertainment.
The family-friendly event will feature an 1880s costume contest, reenactment skits, pie-eating contest, live music and traditional Calico competitions, including a Miner’s Triathlon and Bucket Brigade on Saturday, Sept. 26, followed by the Burro Run on Sunday, Sept. 27.
The Miner’s Triathlon challenges competitors in rock pulling, muckraking and tug-of-war, while the Burro Run sends contestants and their burros racing through stations across town. During the Bucket Brigade, teams race to pass buckets of water and fill their barrel first.
Guests can enjoy Calico’s restaurants, shops and attractions, including Maggie Mine, Mystery Shack and the Odessa Railroad. Calico is pet-friendly, and leashed pets are welcome.
Calico Days celebrates the town’s silver mining history and the spirit of the 1880s. At its peak, Calico was home to about 1,200 residents and produced millions of dollars in silver and borax. In 1966, Knott’s Berry Farm founder Walter Knott donated Calico to San Bernardino County, where it is now managed by the Regional Parks Department.

Recovery, resilience and hope take center stage this September
September is shaping up to be a powerful month of connection, education and community engagement as San Bernardino County Behavioral Health recognizes National Recovery Month and Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month.
Throughout September, the department will host and participate in a wide range of events, trainings and outreach activities designed to celebrate recovery, strengthen suicide prevention efforts and connect residents with resources and support.
