Families are always on the move, and parents and caregivers need to know the correct way to install and use car seats. In fact, according to the NHSTA, an alarming 46 percent of people install car seats incorrectly, which can be a life-and-death situation for their children.
Last week, First 5 San Bernardino and the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health visited the studios of Fox 11 Los Angeles to show viewers of “Good Day LA” how to make sure a child is buckled in safely and correctly. Crystal Montejo, child passenger safety technician with the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, joined the show’s news anchors for two segments to talk about the difference between rear-facing, forward-facing and booster car seats, and how to perform seat checks before driving away.
“Proper installation of child safety seats is essential to protecting our little ones,” said First 5 San Bernardino Executive Director Karen Scott. “By providing information and resources, we’re helping parents do everything possible to keep their children safe and buckled in correctly for maximum protection on the road.”
The news segment closes out First 5 San Bernardino’s Kid Safe Summer campaign, which focused on Water, Sun and On-the-Move Safety for children under five years old. The partnership with the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health brought attention to the county’s free car seat safety classes, free car seat check-ups and low-cost car seat programs.
