The San Bernardino County Public Works Department has won the American Public Works Association (APWA) 2023 Project of the Year Award for the Glen Helen Regional Park Rehabilitation Project (Phase II).
The project has increased public safety for park visitors by improving pedestrian walkways, rehabilitating the pavement on the main access road at the Pool/Meadowlark parking lot, and by reconstructing curb ramps and parking stalls per Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
This is a joint project between Public Works and Regional Parks, which received funding from the county’s Community Service Upgrades General Fund Reserve. The project started in March 2023 and was completed in August 2023.
The APWA is a professional association for public works professionals in the United States. It provides education, advocacy and networking opportunities for individuals involved in the field of public works. The association focuses on areas such as transportation, water resources, sustainability and management of public infrastructure.
This project supports the community by increasing public safety and improving park amenities by offering a more sustainable and environmentally friendly parking lot.
