Established in 1963, Older Americans Month is celebrated every May to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving the growing older adult population in San Bernardino County.

This year’s theme, “Powered by Connection,” focuses on the impact that meaningful connections have on the well-being and health of older adults — a relationship underscored by the U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community.

“Older Americans Month is about engaging with others and enhancing the mental, physical and emotional well-being of older adults so they can age safely in place,” said San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian Director Sharon Nevins. “By acknowledging the role that connectedness plays, we can mitigate issues like loneliness, ultimately promoting wellness and healthy aging for the county’s older adults.”
