The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health, in collaboration with the Department of Aging and Adult Services-Public Guardian and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire, will host its Summer Wellness Extravaganza on Saturday, July 20, from 3 to 8 p.m. at California State University, San Bernardino.

The event aims to connect youth and older adults to build resilience from severe isolation and health impacts that may have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Summer Wellness Extravaganza will promote behavioral health awareness, physical well-being and overall wellness within San Bernardino County. Attendees can look forward to various activities and resources at the event, including carnival games, food vendors, live music, fitness classes, mindfulness sessions, wellness activities and information booths.

In support of the event, Behavioral Health Director Dr. Geogina Yoshioka said, “Events like this are a top priority for the county and our department. They offer a valuable opportunity to connect, engage, and have fun. San Bernardino County is not just where we live and work but also where we play, emphasizing that wellness is crucial for individuals of all ages!”

Additionally, Big Brothers Big Sisters will provide opportunities to experience the joy of mentorship. The U.S. Surgeon General noted mentorship programs as one of the best ways to help young people build connections and combat the Loneliness Epidemic. Attendees can learn more about the benefits of mentorship for their children or sign up to be a mentor to a young person for the day.

This collaborative effort underscores the importance of community partnerships in promoting well-being and supporting individuals in their journey toward better health. The Summer Wellness Extravaganza serves as a platform for education, empowerment and connection within the community.
