The Desert View Conservation Area (DVCA) spans 605 acres in Joshua Tree and offers recreational trails for mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. The DVCA is home to a variety of unique wildlife, such as desert tortoises, bighorn sheep, coyotes, cougars, bobcats, various fowl, rodents and reptiles. The stunning natural scenery and viewscapes featuring the western Joshua Tree, an iconic symbol of the Mojave Desert, offers many opportunities for photography and exploration throughout the year. DVCA features discovery shelters, educational signage and picnic facilities for everyone to enjoy. To protect this fragile desert habitat, the area is only open for day use and prohibits overnight camping, fires and off-trail activities. DVCA is managed by San Bernardino County Public Works-Special Districts.

In December 2019, the Board of Supervisors funded improvements, which included a parking area, restroom, informational kiosk and new trails with signage. Phase II was recently approved, which will include additional trail signage, seating areas, habitat shelters, viewing platforms and educational panels.

The DVCA aims to mitigate past human habitat damage and enhance recreational amenities. San Bernardino County is committed to preserving this desert landscape and these improvements will promote safety and education for visitors while preserving wildlife.
