The Children’s Network recently held its Shine a Light on Child Abuse Prevention Breakfast and Awards Ceremony on April 4 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Ontario, celebrating the incredible contributions and efforts made by individuals and organizations in San Bernardino County towards at-risk children. Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. shared a few words on the importance of the event recognizing community-nominated heroes and highlighting the profound impact these individuals and groups have had on the lives of vulnerable youth.
Nominees were diverse across multiple categories, highlighting the broad spectrum of support for at-risk children in the county. The Lifetime Advocate category celebrated individuals with longstanding dedication, while Community-Based Providers were recognized for their direct impact. Categories such as Probation, Education, Legal, Foster Parents, Behavioral Health, Children and Family Services, and Volunteers emphasized the collaborative approach required from various sectors to effectively uplift at-risk youth.
One of the standout moments of the event was the awarding of $30,000 in scholarships to 25 deserving San Bernardino County youth, thanks to the generous support of the Children’s Fund and the Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP). Among the recipients was a student who received a scholarship to study Cyber Security at the University of Cincinnati. These scholarships not only recognize academic achievement, but also serve as a beacon of hope and encouragement for these young individuals facing various challenges.
The atmosphere at the Shine a Light Breakfast and Awards Ceremony was filled with gratitude, respect and a shared commitment to improving the lives of at-risk children. It was a testament to the power of community collaboration and the unwavering dedication of those working tirelessly to create a brighter future for the youth in San Bernardino County.
