California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) is a vital Human Services program aimed at providing essential aid and services to eligible needy families across all 58 counties in the state. At its core, CalWORKs extends cash assistance to help families cover fundamental needs such as housing, food and other necessary expenses.
Who Qualifies?
Generally, services are available to:
- Low-income families, where one or both parents are:
- Absent
- Unemployed
- Disabled
- Deceased
- Needy caretaker relatives
How Can I Apply?
You may apply for CalWORKs by:
- Calling (877) 410-8829 to request an application be mailed to you
- You may return it by dropping it off at an office, by mail or fax
- Completing an application at a local transitional assistance office
