The Department of Public Health’s Nutrition and Wellness Services (NWS) is thrilled to announce that the successful “Rethink Your Drink Day” event held at Redlands East Valley High School (REVHS) in May 2023 was selected by the CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) media team to be featured in the new CFHL social marketing campaign. The CalFresh Healthy Living Program improves the nutritional health of low-income Californians by providing access to nutrition education, physical activity education and leadership toward healthy community initiatives.

The CFHL stated “Your team’s efforts exemplify impactful policy, systems, and environmental changes aimed at reducing sugar-sweetened beverage consumption and promoting increased intake of water, fruits, vegetables, and physical activity.” As a part of the campaign, the CFHL media team will showcase the success of the event through quotes, photos and videos across various advertising and public relations mediums.

Rethink Your Drink Day is an annual statewide initiative led by the California Department of Public Health’s CFHL program to promote the benefits of healthy beverage choices and educate individuals about the health risks of sugar-sweetened beverage consumption. For the 2023 Rethink Your Drink Day event, NWS partnered with multiple agencies along with the Redlands Unified School District Child Nutrition and REVHS. This joint effort, which focused on drinking more water, reached an estimated 500 students. This outreach initiative targeting teenagers proved successful, particularly given the challenges associated with engaging this demographic in nutritional education. The event also spotlighted the new hydration stations installed in 25 RUSD schools, with six of the stations being located at REVHS.
