In a significant step forward for public safety and emergency preparedness, San Bernardino County officials participated in a ceremonial beam-signing for the Valley Communications Center project on Nov. 12-14, 2024. This milestone signifies the completion of the building’s structural frame and marks the conclusion of Phase I of construction.
Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe said, “In San Bernardino County, we experience frequent natural disasters. The Valley Communications Center will provide the space and technology needed to unite local, state, federal and volunteer allies in one space for response and recovery efforts. This milestone highlights the county’s commitment to creating a facility that not only meets the highest standards of safety, but also ensures the well-being and resilience of our residents for generations to come.”
The Valley Communications Center, a $125 million project funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), will consolidate critical emergency services into a single facility. Designed to withstand extreme conditions, including earthquakes, the center will bring together the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Consolidated Fire Agencies (CONFIRE), the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) and the Office of Emergency Services (OES).
The three-story, 75,085-square-foot structure will also include a 200-foot-tall communication tower. Equipped with next-generation technology, it will provide 24/7 support for up to 454 emergency planners and responders.
“The completion of Phase I of the Valley Communications Center is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our construction and project management teams,” said Rob Gilliam, chief of project management with San Bernardino County Projects and Facilities Management. “It is truly an honor to see this visionary project, one of the county’s most ambitious undertakings, taking shape.”
The project is expected to be fully completed in October 2025. San Bernardino County residents can look forward to further updates on the Valley Communications Center as the construction progresses.
