The San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian (DAAS-PG) provides protective and supportive services throughout the county to promote the health and safety of older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Our name says it all:

Aging: As the designated Area Agency on Aging, the department provides health-related social and nutrition services for older adults through funding from the Older Americans Act. (

Adult: Our adult programs include Adult Protective Services (APS) and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). Both programs are designed to ensure the safety of older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Public Guardian: The Office of the Public Guardian acts as the court-appointed conservator of last resort for those who are unable to provide for their basic needs.

DAAS-PG collaborates with county agencies and community-based organizations to provide a wide range of programs and services to older adults, individuals with disabilities, their families and caretakers to support healthy aging across the lifespan.

Adult Protective Services (APS) strives to prevent and remedy emotional, financial, physical and sexual abuse, and exploitation of older vulnerable adults, age 60 and older, and dependent adults, ages 18 to 59.
Age Wise is a non-traditional behavioral health program for high-risk older adults, age 59 and older, who may benefit from behavioral health and wellness services.
In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is designed to help pay for services provided to Medi-Cal eligible older adults, age 65 or older, and individuals with a disability or blindness so they can remain safely in their own home.
IHSS Provider Services are administered through IHSS Public Authority (IHSS-PA) by connecting care providers with clients that qualify for IHSS.
Long-Term Care Ombudsmen are independent, trained and certified advocates for residents living in long-term care facilities.
Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) aims to avoid or delay inappropriate placement of older adults, age 65 or older, in nursing facilities, while fostering independent living in the community.
Older Californian Nutrition Program provides balanced meals, nutrition education and counseling through congregate and home-delivered meal programs.
Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) ensures the financial and physical safety of incompetent and mentally disabled persons, who meet the criteria for conservatorship as determined by the Superior Court of California, when there are no viable alternatives to public conservatorship.
Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) offers a pathway to employment through part-time, on-the-job training positions to qualified unemployed older adults.
Senior Information and Assistance (SIA) provides information, assistance, referrals to other agencies and advocacy in contacting organizations and agencies for needed services and programs.
Supportive Services include a variety of programs including Adult Day Care, Family Caregiver Support, health insurance counseling, legal assistance, transportation assistance and more.
