San Bernardino County’s In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority (IHSS-PA), in partnership with SEIU Local 2015, provided training to over 150 providers on April 9, 2025, at the inaugural Caregiver Training Summit in Rancho Cucamonga.

“The collaboration with our partners was designed to serve the vast number of IHSS caregivers within San Bernardino County, providing access to training and a variety of resources to assist with meeting the needs of their clients,” said IHSS-PA Executive Director Roxanne Young.

IHSS-PA recognizes caregiver training as a significant component of the IHSS program and a vital strategy [NJ1] [CM2] [NJ3] of retaining the current workforce, enhancing providers’ skills to care for IHSS consumers, and recruiting new providers to the program.

The summit offered 10 workshops covering critical topics on dementia, mental health, elder and dependent abuse, heat-related illnesses, autism spectrum disorder, navigating health plans, caregiver grief and loss, post-hospital care, and inclusivity for all clients.

Attendees were grateful for the information and resources. One caregiver said, “Knowledge is power, and so, if they’re supporting knowledge to help us be better care providers, then we’re all in for it because that’s what we do; we are care providers, and we love what we do.”
