San Bernardino County Children’s Network and the Department of Public Health’s Friday Night Live (FNL) program welcomed more than 100 youth ages 12 to 18 from across the county to the FNL Summer Social event at Glen Helen Regional Park on Wednesday, June 17. The event promoted mental wellness, opioid and substance-use prevention, leadership, teamwork and social-emotional learning. It also emphasized the importance of creating and sustaining meaningful connections with peers and adult allies.

The day consisted of breakfast, followed by fun activities, lunch, a keynote speaker from Leading to Change and shaved ice. Activities were designed to encourage participants to problem-solve, collaborate and increase self-awareness. The event concluded with swimming time at the newly remodeled splash pad and waterslides.

“Summer is an important time to keep young people connected to positive experiences that encourage growth, leadership and belonging,” said Children’s Network Officer Ashley Brooksher. “This event provided teens with an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, build new friendships and simply enjoy being together in a safe, supportive environment. Investing in our youth today helps build stronger, healthier communities for tomorrow.”

The FNL Summer Social was a successful kickoff to summer, providing youth with opportunities to learn, connect and create lasting memories.
