The tide is rolling out on one of San Bernardino County’s favorite summer traditions. Families have just a few days left to ride the wave of fun during the San Bernardino County Library’s Catch the Wave Summer Reading Program before it sails into the sunset on Saturday, Aug. 2.
From spellbinding magic shows and wild animal encounters to giant bubbles, interactive science demonstrations and laugh-out-loud comedy, library branches across the county have been making waves all summer long. Now, residents have one last opportunity to dive into the excitement by completing reading challenges, earning prizes and enjoying the season’s final performances before the last wave rolls ashore.
“Watching families make reading part of their summer adventure has been incredibly rewarding,” said Library Program Coordinator Elizabeth Williams. “Whether you’ve been with us since the first wave or you’re just ready to dip your toes in, there’s still time to catch the fun before the program comes to shore.”
Throughout the summer, thousands of readers have surfed from one adventure to the next, filling library branches with laughter, curiosity and imagination. This year’s performer lineup featured crowd favorites including The Arty Loon Show, Billy Bonkers, Brettso the Great, California Joe, David Skale, Full Spectrum Shows, Wonders of Wildlife, Wild Man Dan and Zany Zoe. Each performance combined entertainment and education while inspiring curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of reading.
With only days remaining, families are encouraged to check their local branch calendar for the final performances and activities. Many events attract large crowds, so arriving early is recommended to ensure you don’t miss the next big splash.
There’s still time to help make waves! As the program winds down, readers of all ages are encouraged to log their reading and help the County Library reach an incredible milestone of 500,000 books read on Aug. 2. Whether it’s one more chapter or one more book, every page brings the community one step closer to the goal.
The Catch the Wave Summer Reading Program concludes Saturday, Aug. 2. Residents can register through Beanstack or visit any County Library to participate.
So, grab your library card, catch one last wave and help us make our biggest splash yet. Together, let’s reach 500,000 books read and celebrate a summer filled with stories, discovery and unforgettable memories.
