San Gorgonio Peak, also known as “Old Grayback,” is the highest peak in Southern California. Standing at 11,502 feet, the peak offers multiple hiking routes to the summit. One route begins at the Vivian Creek Trail in Forest Falls. It is the shortest and steepest route, covering approximately 18 miles round trip with more than 5,000 feet of elevation gain. Along the way, hikers can enjoy scenic views and several creek crossings.

A permit is required for hiking or backpacking and can be obtained at www.sgwa.org. An Adventure Pass is also required to park at the Vivian Creek Trail and can be purchased at the Mill Creek Ranger Station, located at 34701 Mill Creek Rd. in Mentone.
