Last September, the Line and Bridge Fires forced more than 100,000 San Bernardino County residents to evacuate and required thousands of first responders, county departments and community partners to act quickly. From moving families and pets to safety, to opening shelters and providing critical resources, these fires were a powerful reminder that emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere and often without warning.
Preparedness starts with you and your family. Taking a few simple steps today can make all the difference when minutes matter:
- Make a plan – Talk with your family about how you’ll communicate and where you’ll meet in an emergency.
- Build a go-bag – Gather essential items like medications, important documents, food, water and supplies for all family members including pets.
- Stay informed – Sign up for TENS alerts and follow the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services’ social media @readysbcounty for additional trusted information during a disaster.
