The San Bernardino County Land Use Services – Code Enforcement Division recently participated in two major community events in Bloomington, reinforcing its commitment to building stronger connections with residents.

On Aug. 5, Code Enforcement staff joined Bloomington’s fourth annual National Night Out at Ayala Park. The event brought together families, veterans, the Sheriff’s Department, County Fire, and more than 30 community agencies for an evening that was solely focused on highlighting community resources, safety awareness, and, of course, family fun.

Code Enforcement staff engaged with residents by answering questions, sharing information and promoting programs that benefit the public such as the Community Cleanup Program, graffiti abatement and the Illegal Dumping Program, all which help keep neighborhoods safe, clean and well-maintained.

The Code Enforcement team also joined Vice Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr.’s annual back-to-school backpack giveaway at Zimmermann Elementary School. This event provided more than 600 students with backpacks filled with school supplies, made possible through contributions from Baca, Jr., community partners and volunteers. Code Enforcement staff worked alongside the supervisor’s team to distribute backpacks, greet families and support Bloomington’s youth as they prepared for the new school year.

Reflecting on these efforts, Code Enforcement Officer Derek Evans shared, “Events like these remind us that our job isn’t only about enforcement, but also about building relationships and showing residents that we’re here to support them and their neighborhoods.”

Officer Moises Sanchez added, “When families see us at community events, they know we’re approachable and invested in their well-being. It’s a chance to connect, listen and show that Code Enforcement is part of the community too.”

These events highlight Code Enforcement’s dual role, not only as enforcers of county codes, but also as active partners committed to outreach. By engaging with residents and demonstrating support beyond enforcement duties, the division continues to strengthen community trust while promoting public safety and neighborhood well-being across San Bernardino County.
