The San Bernardino County Museum will be filled to the brim with model trains during its annual Train Days event, April 2 through 10.
Train Days has become so popular that the museum has extended its run from one weekend in past years to a full eight days this year. A dozen different Southern California Train Clubs will bring their modular layouts and other family-friendly exhibits to the main museum in Redlands, as well as for the first time to the County’s branch museum in Apple Valley, the Victor Valley Museum.
“This is a deeply beloved annual community event and we eagerly anticipate the thrill for young and old alike. Imagine these small trains and layouts with villages, mountains, circuses, cityscapes, and railyards inside and outside the museum, and the opportunity to learn about the trains with model train experts and club members,” said Melissa Russo, the museum’s director.
Scheduled to participate are the Antelope Valley N’Scalers (at the Victor Valley Museum), the Backyard Railroad Company, Green River Junction Railroad, High Desert Modular Railroad Club, Orange County Module Railroaders, Orange County ‘N’Gineers, Mark Anthony Circus Trains, Mile Post 535 Club, N-Land Pacific Modular Club, Southern California Traction Club, and ZoCal Z Scale Group.
Train Days kicks off Saturday, April 2 with a Museum Association Member’s pancake breakfast, sponsored by Redlands Noon Kiwanis, and at 11 a.m. the museum will invite visitors to participate in a Guinness World challenge to achieve the largest Soul Train Dance on record. Participants can find more information and rsvp at www.sbcounty.gov/museum or call (909) 798-8608.
Train Days and the County Museum’s other exciting events and exhibits reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors.
