San Bernardino County’s Environmental Health Services (EHS) and Code Enforcement held two street vending workshops aimed at helping food vendors understand and navigate the laws and regulations of street vending. These efforts help vendors succeed in becoming permitted food businesses within San Bernardino County.
The workshops, held in Bloomington and Muscoy, covered legislative updates related to street vending (Senate Bill 946 and Senate Bill 972), types of food vending permits, options beyond street vending and more. After the presentations, attendees had the chance to engage with EHS and Code Enforcement staff to ask questions and discuss their specific situations.
The first street vending workshop was held on Tuesday, July 23 at the Ayala Park Community Center in Bloomington. There were 90 attendees (65 in-person and 25 virtual).
The second street vending workshop took place on Wednesday, July 24 at Vermont Elementary School in Muscoy. There were 101 attendees (85 in-person and 16 virtual). Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., attended in support of the initiative and provided opening remarks.
“We are committed to empowering our community members with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed,” said Supervisor Baca, Jr. “By providing these workshops, we aim to foster entrepreneurship and economic growth within our neighborhoods. It’s essential that vendors work with the county to get properly permitted and do it right, ensuring a safe and thriving environment for everyone.”
To improve access to the workshop information, the county offered in-person workshops in English with live Spanish translation, provided a virtual meeting option in both English and Spanish, and ensured all printed materials were available in both languages.
“The recent workshop provided us with a valuable opportunity to connect with and educate sidewalk vendors about permit processes and San Bernardino County codes,” stated Code Enforcement Chief Ignacio Nuñez. “The impressive turnout demonstrated the community’s strong interest and commitment to working together to make a positive impact in our county.”
EHS offers free consultations on street vending permitting. To schedule an appointment, call (800) 442-2283 or for street vending information and resources, visit ehs.sbcounty.gov.
