County residents are invited to provide input on housing and community development needs across the county.
The Board of Supervisors will conduct a hearing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the County Government Center in San Bernardino to prioritize housing and community development projects and guide the use of grant funds that the county receives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Residents can participate in the hearing at the County Government Center or at videoconference locations in Joshua Tree and Hesperia:
- Bob Burke Joshua Tree Government Center
63665 Twentynine Palms Highway, Joshua Tree
- Jerry Lewis High Desert Government Center
15900 Smoke Tree St., Hesperia
Every five years, the county’s Community Development and Housing Department is required to prepare a Consolidated Plan to identify affordable housing and community development needs. The purpose of the Consolidated Plan is to increase affordable housing, reduce homelessness and provide a range of social services to underserved communities.
“The goal of this hearing is to connect with our residents to gather information that will help us draft a Consolidated Plan and Action Plan to increase affordable housing and expand economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income residents,” said CDH Director Carrie Harmon. “I encourage county residents to join us as we discuss this critical topic and share any feedback they may have.”
HUD grant funds can be allocated to eligible projects and activities in the unincorporated communities of the county as well as cooperating cities including Adelanto, Barstow, Big Bear Lake, Colton, Grand Terrace, Highland, Loma Linda, Montclair, Needles, Redlands, Twentynine Palms, Yucaipa and the Town of Yucca Valley. Additionally, the cities of Chino Hills and Rancho Cucamonga also qualify for HUD funding.
CDH is also required to submit an annual Action Plan, which summarizes the actions, activities and specific federal and state resources that will be used each year to address the priority needs and specific goals outlined in the Consolidated Plan. The county also provides an annual report on accomplishments and progress toward meeting its goals identified in the Consolidated Plan.
The County Government Center is located at 385 N. Arrowhead Ave. in San Bernardino. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, please attend one of the videoconference locations or click here to watch the meeting online. For more information about the hearing, please visit CDH’s website.
