Tiffany Haddish to read new children’s book at Highland Library

The San Bernardino County Library is pleased to announce that actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish will visit the Sam J. Racadio Highland Branch Library and Environmental Learning Center on Friday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. Haddish will read and promote her new picture book entitled, “Layla, The Last Black Unicorn.” This heartwarming story inspires readers to embrace their uniqueness and overcome life’s obstacles. The event will also include a special kids craft.

“We are thrilled to have Tiffany Haddish join us for a special storytime to encourage our youngest readers to develop a love for books,” said County Librarian Melanie Orosco. “We are also grateful to have Ms. Haddish share her beautiful work with us.”

In addition to participating in the storytime, attendees are also encouraged to check out five items during the event to be entered into an opportunity drawing to take home a signed copy of “Layla, the Last Black Unicorn.” If customers do not have a library card, they can obtain one by starting the process at https://www.sbclib.org and clicking on “Get a Library Card.” Customers who do not win a signed copy can also borrow a copy of Haddish’s book with their library card.

The Highland Branch Library is located at 7863 Central Ave., in Highland.

In support of the Vision2Read literacy campaign as well as San Bernardino County’s Opportunity Campaign, this program aims to improve literacy rates among children between the ages of 0 to 17 by inspiring an excitement to read, providing achievement goals and encouraging a reading routine.

Saddle up: Old West Days is coming to county museums

Step back in time to the days of the great American West! Round up the family and join us for Old West Days, a family-friendly event taking place at both the San Bernardino County Museum and Victor Valley Museum. Uncover the history of America’s western frontier, a unique landscape of converging cultures.

Old West Days at the San Bernardino County Museum is a two-day event that runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 and Sunday, Jan. 21 with card games, live music, frontier arts & crafts, historic demonstrations, tasty treats and more. Museum galleries will be open during the event and regular admission applies.

Old West Days at the Victor Valley Museum is a one-day event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 with card games, live music, frontier arts & crafts, historic demonstrations, tasty treats and more. Museum galleries will be open during the event and regular admission applies.

The San Bernardino County Museum is located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane, at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Victor Valley Museum is located at 11873 Apple Valley Road, Apple Valley. The museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $10 (adult), $8 (military or senior), $7 (student), and $5 (child ages 6 to 12). Volunteer open house event coming to San Bernardino County Museum

Interested in helping the team at the San Bernardino County Museum (SBCM) and Victor Valley Museum (VVM)? Join us for an upcoming Volunteer Open House event on Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands.

Come meet our amazing museum team and discover more about our growing organization. We warmly welcome friends and groups, so please bring them along!

SBCM and VVM host a range of volunteer opportunities year-round, giving you the chance to share your talents and join a vibrant community of like-minded people.

If you are unable to attend the in-person open house, the museum will host a virtual volunteer open house event on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please visit their website for more information.

Discover the joy of a furry companion, and let their love melt away the winter chills when you adopt from the Devore and Big Bear Animal Shelters during our Winter Whiskers Adoption Event from Jan 19 – 26.

All pets come spayed/neutered, microchipped, and receive most vaccines.
