In March, San Bernardino County Code Enforcement introduced a specialized unit: the Rapid Response Team (RRT). Led by Special Projects Supervisor Guillermo Morales, this specialized unit strengthens the division’s ability to tackle complex code enforcement challenges, ensuring quick and effective responses to community concerns.

The team comprises four experienced Code Enforcement Officers and two Senior Code Enforcement Officers, all highly skilled in handling diverse code enforcement issues. Operating seven days a week with flexible schedules extending late into the evening, the RRT is equipped to address a broad spectrum of urgent matters. From emergencies and public safety hazards to persistent nuisance complaints, their intervention helps to resolve these pressing issues quickly. The team also collaborates regularly with partner agencies, ensuring comprehensive solutions without disrupting the duties of the regular Code Enforcement team.

In addition to their regular duties, the RRT is expanding its expertise. All team members have recently been certified to conduct tire inspections for waste tire-generating businesses and facilities, ensuring proper disposal practices. Funded by a CalRecycle grant, these efforts support the county’s ongoing battle against illegal dumping.

Team members have embraced the program with enthusiasm. “I enjoy assisting with high-profile cases. It’s busy, but it’s an excellent opportunity to learn more about all the regions we serve,” said Code Enforcement Officer Sandra Flores. Officer Adam Gomez, added, “Although Rapid Response is a new program, it’s been a great learning experience. The impact we’ve made in our communities during this short period has been rewarding.” Since its inception, the RRT has made a profound impact addressing community concerns and fostering partnerships with residents to resolve issues efficiently. Their proactive approach embodies San Bernardino County’s unwavering commitment to protecting the quality of life for all residents and visitors, ensuring the entire region’s health, safety and well-being.
