The Board of Supervisors took several actions during its regular board meeting on Feb. 24.

Board funds District Specific Priorities Program initiatives

The board approved funding for several district-specific projects, including:

  • $10,000 from Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez’s District Specific Priorities Program to the Fontana Unified School District to support field training equipment and uniforms for Fontana High School junior varsity and varsity teams through Dec. 31, 2027.
  • $10,000 from Armendarez’s District Specific Priorities Program to the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care Foundation to offset costs associated with pet adoption events, veterinary care, foster programs and animal enrichment activities through Dec. 31, 2027.

By supporting public safety and regional collaboration, youth recreation, and responsible pet ownership, the board is working to achieve the Countywide Vision.

Transitional housing services expanded for former foster youth

San Bernardino County Children and Family Services is contracting with Aspiranet and Walden Environment Inc., dba Walden Family Services, in a combined amount not to exceed $6.6 million, for the period of March 1, 2026, through Feb. 28, 2029, to provide Transitional Housing Program-Plus services for young adults formerly in foster care.

The contracts will expand the program’s capacity to serve eligible youth ages 18 to 25, reflecting recent state budget changes that extend services for qualifying young adults by up to an additional 36 months and raise the maximum eligibility age to 25. Services include safe housing, 24-hour crisis intervention, educational and employment support, and mentoring and life skills development. A state grant from the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council will cover approximately $3.5 million in funding toward the services, with the remaining $3.1 million funded by the Wraparound Reinvestment Fund.

By strengthening long-term outcomes for young adults transitioning from foster care, Children and Family Services is making progress toward achieving the Countywide Vision.

District Attorney receives automobile fraud grant

San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson is receiving an approximately $497,000 grant award from the California Insurance Commissioner for the Organized Automobile Fraud Activity Interdiction Program for the period of July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

The funding supports one deputy district attorney IV and one district attorney senior investigator dedicated to investigating and prosecuting organized automobile insurance fraud. The grant is funded through statewide insurer assessments and requires no county match.

The program operates as part of the Urban Grant Task Force, created in 2000, which includes investigators from the County District Attorney’s office, Riverside County District Attorney’s office, the California Department of Insurance and California Highway Patrol. This long-standing collaboration has led to the investigation and prosecution of several large-scale fraud schemes throughout the county and Inland Empire.

By investigating and prosecuting insurance fraud with state and regional partners, Anderson’s office advances the Countywide Vision’s public safety goals and helps to prevent unfair insurance rate increases for residents.

Preschool Services classroom in San Bernardino reconstruction update

The board approved an amendment to a lease agreement with the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino to update the scope of tenant improvements for classroom, office and playground space used by the San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department in San Bernardino.

The department currently leases approximately 4,300 square feet at 1151 and 1163 N. Crestview Ave. for classroom and administrative operations under a term that extends through May 31, 2040. The amendment supports the county’s plan to demolish and reconstruct the existing building to better align the facility with modern educational standards and classroom needs.

By modernizing classroom facilities to better serve young children and families, the county continues to advance the regional Cradle-to-Career goal, strengthening early learning environments that lay the foundation for lifelong success.

County Fire Station in Rosena Ranch project update

Acting as the governing body of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, the board approved the conveyance of a permanent easement to Southern California Edison to support electrical service for the future Rosena Ranch County Fire Station No. 2.

The easement, granted at no cost, applies to a portion of district-owned property at the corner of Glen Helen Parkway and Lytle Creek Road in the unincorporated area of San Bernardino County. It authorizes Southern California Edison to install, operate and maintain overhead and underground electrical infrastructure necessary to power the planned public safety facility.

The 3.27-acre site is slated for construction of an approximately 15,000-square-foot facility that will include an approximately 12,000-square-foot fire station and an approximately 3,000-square-foot San Bernardino County Sheriff’s substation. The project is designed to meet the needs of the growing Rosena Ranch community and surrounding areas, expanding emergency response capacity and enhancing coordinated public safety services for residents.

County Library receives donations

The San Bernardino County Library is receiving a combined $40,000 in donations from local Friends of the Library groups, including:

  • $20,000 from the James S. Thalman Chino Hills Friends of the Library Group to support technology updates at the Chino Hills Branch Library, including the purchase of early learning computers to enhance STEAM programming and expand educational access for young children.
  • $20,000 from the Lake Arrowhead Friends of the Library Group to support library programming and shelving updates at the Lake Arrowhead Branch Library, improving access to materials and enhancing the overall customer experience.

By strengthening educational resources and expanding access to lifelong learning opportunities through strong community partnerships, the county is working to fulfill the Countywide Vision.
