The Pioneertown community is invited to attend a workshop hosted by the San Bernardino County Land Use Services Department’s Planning Division on Tuesday, July 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Soundstage on Mane Street. Residents, business owners and local stakeholders will have an opportunity to help shape the Pioneertown Special Development District, an initiative designed to preserve the community’s historic identity while guiding thoughtful and compatible development.
Pioneertown Community Workshop
Date: Tuesday, July 14
Time: 3 to 5 p.m.
Location: The Soundstage, 53585 Mane Street, Pioneertown, CA 92268
The workshop continues the collaborative effort that began in November 2025, when more than 50 community members came together at a county-led meeting to share insights on how new development should reflect and respect the town’s character. Their input has helped inform the draft ordinance now available for public review, and the upcoming meeting offers another opportunity for the community to help shape the proposal.
Building on a historic foundation
The Special Development District is intended to protect Pioneertown’s unique sense of place. Established in 1946 as a fully functional 1880s-style Western film set, Pioneertown’s Mane Street buildings were constructed between 1946 and 1966 as permanent structures meant for everyday use. Today, these preserved Western facades continue to serve the community as restaurants, shops, lodging and gathering spaces.
Recognition of the town’s significance came in 2020, when the Pioneertown Mane Street Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The proposed development standards aim to honor that legacy by ensuring that future growth complements the historic environment.
Next steps
The draft ordinance for the Special Development District is now available for public review and comment. Community members can submit feedback or questions to Associate Planner Vivian Nguyen at Vivian.Nguyen@lus.sbcounty.gov.
After the July workshop, the project is expected to move to the Planning Commission in fall 2026 and the Board of Supervisors in winter 2026 for formal votes, although these dates are subject to change. Each stage will provide additional opportunities for public input before any final actions are taken.
