WIC program hosts community baby shower and health fair to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month

Community Baby Shower & Health Fair celebrating National Breastfeeding Month in Rancho Cucamonga.

Join us for a Community Baby Shower and Health Fair on Saturday, Aug. 22, to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month. Hosted by the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program, the event will bring families together to learn about breastfeeding, connect with resources and celebrate new and expecting parents.

This year’s National Breastfeeding Month theme, “The Power of Breastfeeding,” highlights the many benefits of human milk. Breast milk is unique because it naturally changes to meet a baby’s needs as they grow and develop.

Whether you are expecting a baby, are a new parent or are growing your family, join us on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the James L. Brulte Senior Center, located at 11200 Base Line Road in Rancho Cucamonga. This event is free and no registration is required.

There’s something new to discover at your local library.

The San Bernardino County Library invites residents of all ages to learn, explore, connect and create during Session 4, now underway at library branches throughout the county. Through Sept. 27, residents can take part in a wide variety of free programs, activities and learning opportunities for children, teens, adults and families.

From storytimes and early literacy activities for young learners to line dancing, astronomy programs and crossword activities for adults, Session 4 offers something for nearly every age and interest. Each program is designed to give residents an opportunity to discover a new skill or hobby, spend time with family and friends, meet others in their community and experience more of what their local library has to offer.

“Libraries are more than places to find great books,” said Library Programs Coordinator Elizabeth Williams. “Our branches are gathering places where people can learn, participate, build connections and have fun. Session 4 is a great opportunity for residents to explore everything their local library has to offer.”

Programs and schedules vary by branch and may include educational and recreational activities, cultural experiences, technology opportunities, literacy programs and activities the whole family can enjoy.

With 32 branches serving communities across San Bernardino County, residents have plenty of opportunities to find a program that sparks their interest.

“Whether you’re looking for a fun activity with the kids, an opportunity to meet your neighbors or simply a chance to try something new, your local library has a place for you,” Williams said.

Residents can view upcoming programs, dates and times by visiting Session Programs and Events – Library and selecting their local branch.

The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, in partnership with LifeStream Blood Bank, will host a community blood drive on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will be held at the district’s headquarters, located at 598 S. Tippecanoe Ave. in San Bernardino. Donations will be collected in the first-floor Assembly Room.

A single blood donation can help save up to three lives.

“We’re proud to open our doors and give back to the community we serve every day,” EMS Supervisor Miranda Mulhall said. “Donating blood is one of the simplest ways residents can make a real difference for their neighbors.”

All donors will receive a limited-edition San Bernardino County Fire Protection District T-shirt and a $25 Target gift card while supplies last.

Appointments are encouraged and may be scheduled by calling LifeStream at 800-879-4484 or by scheduling an appointment online. Walk-ins will be accepted as space allows.
