County Library readers make waves during 2026 Summer Reading Program

The San Bernardino County Library wrapped up a ‘shore’-to-remember summer, celebrating the thousands of readers who made waves during its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Catch the Wave!”

From June 8 through Aug. 2, readers of all ages were invited to dive into books, ride the tide of discovery and enjoy free programs and activities at County Library branches. Children, teens and adults tracked their reading throughout the eight-week program while working toward incentives, prizes and special recognition.

This year, 36,402 participants registered for Catch the Wave, 618,083 books were read or items checked out, and 71,714 customers attended programs and activities across San Bernardino County.

The summer culminated with grand prize winners recognized across all 32 County Library locations in each age category.

Adult participants who read at least one book per week and redeemed their weekly prize were entered into drawings for special prize baskets. Young readers were encouraged to go above and beyond with the countywide challenge. Children and teens who achieved their reading goals had a chance to win grand prizes at their local libraries.

To respect participant privacy, individual winners will not be publicly identified. Their accomplishments, however, reflect the enthusiasm and commitment to reading demonstrated by thousands of participants throughout San Bernardino County this summer.

“Our community truly made waves this summer,” said Library Program Coordinator Elizabeth Williams. “It was wonderful to see readers of all ages dive into new stories, participate in programs and make the library part of their summer adventures. Congratulations to all of our grand prize winners, and thank you to everyone who helped make ‘Catch the Wave!’ such a memorable summer.”

Throughout the program, County Library branches offered a variety of free educational and entertainment experiences designed to keep residents reading, learning and connected. Activities included live performances, interactive shows, family storytimes and special events for children, teens and adults.

While Catch the Wave has officially sailed into the sunset, the adventure continues. County Library branches offer opportunities to read, learn and discover year-round with books, digital resources, educational tools, technology, and free programs for all ages.
