We would like to thank Mike Eudy of Crestline for submitting a remarkable photo of Lake Gregory in the San Bernardino Mountains.
The clouds above the lake form what appears to be a pair of angel wings, adding something special to the view of the lake.
Lake Gregory is a man-made lake, and its history is closely connected to a Redlands citrus grower named Arthur Gregory, Sr. He helped develop the area in the early 1900s when it was known as Houston Flat. Gregory established the Crest Forest Water District and donated land for the lake and dam. Construction began in 1937 and when the project ran out of funds, Gregory personally covered the remaining costs.
When heavy rain came to Southern California in 1938, the lake filled in just three days — much sooner than the three years originally estimated.
Today, Lake Gregory Regional Park offers swimming, boating, fishing and other outdoor recreation. The park also provides a habitat for many types of wildlife.
