Animal dumping is illegal and harmful to pets. Do the right thing—contact Animal Care for safe surrender options.

Abandoning a pet is not only harmful to the animal, but it’s also illegal. Under California Penal Code 597s, willfully abandoning an animal is considered a misdemeanor with fines that can reach up to $1,000.

When pets are dumped on roadsides, in parks or near shelters, it puts them at risk of injury, starvation or death. If you see animal dumping, report it immediately by calling 1-800-472-5609 and pressing 1 for San Bernardino County Animal Care field services.

If you need help rehoming a pet, safe and responsible options are available. Visit animalcare.sbcounty.gov/rehome-or-surrender-your-pet to find resources and learn about your options.
