Get ready to explore the wonders of the night as we search for owls, glowing scorpions and other nocturnal creatures during a Night Walk at Mojave Narrows Regional Park on Saturday, July 25. Guided walks begin at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. and last about 45 minutes each.

With the stunning night sky as our backdrop, we’ll uncover hidden surprises and learn about the incredible wildlife that becomes active after sunset. This family-friendly adventure is perfect for explorers of all ages — so grab your flashlight, bring your sense of adventure and get ready for a night to remember!

Please wear comfortable shoes, dress appropriately, and bring a flashlight, water and snacks.

Leashed pets are welcome. Admission is $15 per vehicle and free for those camping with us. Mojave Narrows is located at 18000 Yates Road in Victorville. The park is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

CFS to host backpack giveaway events

San Bernardino County Children and Family Services invites families to its community backpack giveaway events, where the first 500 children in grades TK-12 will receive a free backpack filled with essential school supplies. Attendees can also enjoy interactive games, face painting, a community resource fair, giveaways, food and drinks and music. Bring the whole family for a day of fun, community connection and back-to-school support!

Get ready to blow bubbles and create something magical with Regional Parks during this hands-on Art in the Park: Rainbow Bubbles activity at Glen Helen Regional Park on Tuesday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Be sure to bring an empty water bottle for the activity.

Step into a world of color and foam as you watch bright, swirling bubbles come to life right in front of you. With just a few simple materials, you’ll create long flowing bubble “snakes” that grow and stretch. This playful, magical sensory experience is all about experimenting, exploring and having fun together.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to create, play and discover — perfect for families looking to add a little extra color and joy to their day!

All supplies will be provided while they last. All ages are welcome! Leashed pets are welcome too!

Glen Helen Regional Park offers the perfect setting for a day of fishing, biking, visiting the playground, enjoying the swim complex, picnicking or grilling. Pack the car and spend the day exploring the great outdoors. Park summer hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Aug. 21. Glen Helen Regional Park is located at 2555 Glen Helen Parkway in San Bernardino (Devore).

General park admission is $10 per vehicle Monday through Friday, $15 per vehicle Saturday and Sunday, and $20 per vehicle on holidays.

Cool off this summer with splash pad fun and free snow cones at Regional Parks.

Cool off and play the day away at San Bernardino County Regional Parks with splash pad fun, exciting games and refreshing snow cones during August events at Cucamonga-Guasti and Prado Regional Parks.

Whether you’re cooling off at the splash pad, tossing bean bags or just relaxing in the sun, these family-friendly activities are the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors at either park. Free snow cones will be available while supplies last.

Library shifts into high gear with inaugural Read, Write & Cruise Car Show celebration

Drivers, start your engines! The San Bernardino County Library is inviting classic car enthusiasts, families and Route 66 fans to its inaugural Read, Write & Cruise Car Show, a free community celebration honoring the 100th anniversary of historic Route 66.

Taking place on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hesperia Branch Library, the event will bring together automotive enthusiasts and the community for a day celebrating the legacy of America’s Mother Road through classic vehicles, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.

Guests can admire an impressive collection of classic automobiles, custom builds and unique vehicles while meeting the passionate owners behind them. Vehicle owners are encouraged to register now and showcase their prized rides as part of this milestone celebration.

The event will also feature live music by Arena Red, food vendors, interactive exhibits from San Bernardino County departments and community organizations, children’s activities and more. Food vendors include Dawgs 4 Dogs, Kona Ice of Victor Valley, E’Kernely Yours Kettle Corn, Tacos Los 3 Robertos and West Roast Coffee.

“As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Route 66, we’re excited to bring our first-ever car show to the community and create an event where people can connect, share stories and celebrate the road that has inspired generations,” said SBCL Events Coordinator Jenni McCormick. “Whether you’re a lifelong car enthusiast, a Route 66 history buff or simply looking for a fun family outing, we invite everyone to join us for this special celebration.”

Vehicle registration remains open, and participants are encouraged to reserve their space before all spots are filled. From restored classics and muscle cars to custom creations and specialty vehicles, every automobile has a story to tell.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of stargazing, live animal encounters, interactive activities and family-friendly fun under the night sky.

The San Bernardino County Library invites residents of all ages to experience Galaxy Nights: Wildlife After Dark, an extraordinary event that combines the wonder of astronomy with unforgettable live animal encounters for a truly unique evening of learning and discovery.

The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Lucerne Valley Janice Horst Branch Library. Guests will have the rare opportunity to journey through the mysteries of the night sky while coming face-to-face with some of nature’s most fascinating creatures. Designed to inspire curiosity and spark imagination, Galaxy Nights: Wildlife After Dark is a one-night-only event that promises memorable experiences for families, nature enthusiasts and aspiring astronomers alike.

The evening will feature live animal presentations showcasing an incredible lineup of wildlife ambassadors, including a majestic Eurasian eagle-owl, a colorful blue-tongued skink, a captivating tarantula and a striking kingsnake. Guests will learn about each animal’s unique adaptations, behaviors and role in the natural world through engaging, interactive presentations.

One of the evening’s most unique features is the connection between the live animal encounters and the constellations visible overhead. Following the live animal presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to observe constellations including Ursa Major (the bear), Lacerta (the lizard) and Aquila (the eagle). This immersive experience bridges astronomy and wildlife education, allowing guests to discover how animals have inspired celestial legends and constellations for centuries.

Adding to the excitement, San Bernardino County Regional Parks will host interactive educational stations, offering hands-on activities that connect visitors to wildlife, conservation and the natural environment.

“This is not your typical evening program,” said Library Events Coordinator Jenni McCormick. “Galaxy Nights: Wildlife After Dark brings together two worlds that captivate people of all ages—the wonders of the cosmos and the incredible diversity of wildlife. It’s an experience designed to inspire exploration, learning and a sense of awe.”

Adding to the evening’s experience, local vendors Brew and Moo Coffee, Drinkzilla and Abby’s Cakes & Moore will be on-site offering a selection of specialty beverages, refreshing drinks, and sweet treats available for purchase throughout the event.

With live animals, constellation viewing, interactive exhibits and family-friendly activities all in one location, Galaxy Nights: Wildlife After Dark is a can’t-miss event that offers a rare blend of science, nature and adventure unlike anything else in the region.

Summer swim season continues at Glen Helen and Yucaipa swim complexes through Labor Day

Spend the summer enjoying the swim complexes at Glen Helen and Yucaipa Regional Parks! Visitors can enjoy swimming, waterslides and family fun all season long.

The swim complexes are open:

July 7-31 (closed Mondays)
August 1-30 (Saturdays and Sundays only)
Labor Day weekend: Sept. 5-7

Park and swim facility admission fees are separate. Park admission is $10 per vehicle Monday-Friday and $15 per vehicle on weekends and holidays. Holiday weekends include Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Swim ticket prices (now includes waterslide access)

Weekdays and weekends (non-holidays): $15/per person
Holidays and holiday weekends: $20/per person
Children under age three are free
Family four-pack (not available for purchase on holidays and special events): $55

Waterslide height requirement

Must be at least 48 inches tall to ride the slides.

Swim admission is first come, first served. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early in the day because the swim complexes may reach capacity. Once all the wristbands are sold for the day, no new visitors will be allowed inside. Swimmers who have wristbands may exit and re-enter the complex throughout the day until the pool closes at 4 p.m.

Lake Gregory Regional Park is open daily through Labor Day weekend. Grab your friends and family and spend the day swimming, racing down waterslides, bouncing across our inflatable waterpark, cruising the lake and enjoying delicious food with mountain views.

Lake swimming hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beach Access Passes

General Access Beach Pass: $17 per day and includes park entry plus access to the beach and splash pad.
All-Access Beach Pass: $32 per day and includes park entry plus access to the beach, splash pad, waterslides and inflatable waterpark.

Lake Gregory has 84 surface acres for swimming, water sports and other summer recreation. Tag your summer crew and we’ll see you at the lake!
