Community members and county leaders celebrate improvements to the Wonder Valley Community Center with a ribbon cutting.

For residents of Wonder Valley, the local community center is more than a building — it’s a place to gather with neighbors, participate in programs and connect with important community resources. Thanks to recent updates, this longtime gathering place is better equipped to serve the community for years to come.

San Bernardino County celebrated the completion of improvements to the Wonder Valley Community Center on Sept. 23, joined by Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe and members of the community.

Rowe was instrumental in securing approximately $690,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to support improvements to the facility. Work included upgrades to the kitchen, restrooms, cooling and water heater systems, lighting and septic system, along with general repairs and the installation of a commercial-grade reverse osmosis water filtration system.

The improvements build on the center’s long history as a gathering place for community events and local organizations. San Bernardino County Public Works Special Districts led the improvement project.

Rowe, whose district includes the Morongo Basin, thanked the Public Works team and emphasized the importance of investing in community spaces throughout the county’s rural areas.

“Most importantly, this investment helps ensure the Wonder Valley Community Center can continue serving as a gathering place and resource for this community for years to come,” Rowe said.

The project reflects the Countywide Vision by investing in welcoming, reliable community spaces that strengthen quality of life and help residents stay connected.
