More than 2,400 residents came together for San Bernardino County’s Fall Wellness Extravaganza, filling the day with music, laughter, wellness and connection across generations.
Hosted through a partnership between the San Bernardino County Behavioral Health Department and Department of Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian, the event created a welcoming space for children, families, older adults and community members of all ages to enjoy activities together while connecting with county programs and community resources.
Throughout the day, the event grounds were filled with activity as families enjoyed the Ferris wheel, train, carnival games, bingo, line dancing and a wellness scavenger hunt. Hands-on activities such as painting and crafts gave attendees another way to slow down, create and connect, while a costume contest and live music from Knyght Ryder kept the energy going and brought generations together through shared experiences.
The event also connected residents with resources that support health and wellness beyond the day’s festivities. Attendees had opportunities to participate in Narcan training, learn about behavioral health resources and even meet adoptable pets through the San Bernardino County Public Health Department.
“This is what community wellness looks like,” said Josh Dugas, director of the San Bernardino County Behavioral Health Department. “It is people coming together, building relationships, having fun and knowing there are resources and people here to support them. Seeing more than 2,400 residents of all ages connecting in one place is a powerful reminder that wellness is about more than services. It is also about belonging and creating opportunities for people to feel connected to their community.”
That sense of connection could be felt throughout the event, with attendees sharing how much they appreciated having a free, family-friendly event that offered something for every generation and brought so many different parts of the community together in one place.
The Fall Wellness Extravaganza also provided free food to attendees, and 150 Thanksgiving food bags were distributed to help support local families as the holiday season approaches.
The event reflects the importance of partnership between Behavioral Health, Aging and Adult Services and other county departments in creating opportunities that support the whole person and strengthen connections across generations.
For Behavioral Health, community events like the Fall Wellness Extravaganza are also an opportunity to bring behavioral health resources directly into the community in an approachable and welcoming way. Whether someone comes for the music, the Ferris wheel, a wellness activity or simply to spend time with family, they also leave knowing where they can turn when they or someone they care about needs support.
