We are proud to present another episode of the “Did You Know?” video series featuring Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., who highlights an important piece of local history.
Did you know the first McDonald’s opened in 1940 in San Bernardino? It was founded by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald as a small drive-in restaurant with a simple menu featuring hamburgers, fries and milkshakes. In 1948, they transformed the fast-food industry by introducing their Speedee Service System, one of the earliest assembly-line approaches to preparing food. This efficient model caught the attention of Ray Kroc, who later expanded McDonald’s into the global giant that it is today.
