Celebrate Older Americans Month and champion your health and well-being for independence.

Established in 1963, Older Americans Month is celebrated every May to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends and reaffirm commitments to serving the growing older adult population in San Bernardino County.

The 2026 theme, Champion Your Health, highlights the importance of prevention, wellness and proactive health management in supporting healthy aging. The campaign encourages individuals to take an active role in their well-being by accessing preventive services, making informed health decisions and advocating for their needs. This year’s focus also emphasizes evidence-based programs, self-management strategies, the vital role of caregivers and strong community partnerships that help people maintain healthy and independent lives.

“Older Americans Month is an opportunity to encourage older adults to take an active role in protecting and promoting their health through prevention, wellness and meaningful community connections,” said San Bernardino County Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian Director Sharon Nevins. “By acknowledging the role that connectedness plays, we can mitigate issues like loneliness, ultimately promoting wellness and healthy aging for the county’s older adults.”
