County shelters celebrate California Adopt-a-Pet Day with free adoptions
On Saturday, June 6, San Bernardino County’s animal shelters in Big Bear and Devore will join more than 150 shelters across California in offering fee-waived pet adoptions as part of the third annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day.
The event is hosted by the California Animal Welfare Association (CalAnimals), the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SF SPCA), and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). This year’s goal is to place 5,000 pets into loving homes statewide.
The Big Bear and Devore Animal Shelters will host a special celebration featuring free pet adoptions all day, a photo booth, vendors and resource tables from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Adoptions are FREE for qualifying pets and include complimentary spaying or neutering, a microchip, and age-appropriate vaccinations.
To help ease your transition to pet parenthood, MetLife Pet Insurance offers 30 days of complimentary pet insurance.

This dynamic session continues the County Library’s commitment to fostering connection, curiosity and community through a wide range of free programs designed for readers, learners and creators of all ages.
Session 3 offers engaging opportunities for families, teens and adults to explore, discover and participate in enriching experiences, including:
- Storytimes and family reading events – Early literacy programs designed to inspire young readers and foster a lifelong love of reading.
- STEAM and Animaker programs – Hands-on activities that promote creativity, problem-solving and innovation.
- Arts, crafts, and cultural programs – Interactive workshops that celebrate artistic expression and community connection.
- Special seasonal events – Themed and seasonal programming for all ages, including family-friendly celebrations and library-wide initiatives.

Cool off and play the day away at Regional Parks with a fun-filled day at the splash pad, complete with exciting games and refreshing snow cones at Mojave Narrows, Prado and Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Parks during June events.
Whether you’re racing through the splash pad, tossing bean bags or just relaxing in the sun, it’s the perfect way to enjoy outdoor recreation at Regional Parks.

Public Defender’s Mobile Defense Program returning to Chino June 10
The Mobile Defense Program helps expand access to justice by bringing legal services and county resources directly into the community.
Community members can receive record-clearing and expungement assistance, along with Mobile Court services for eligible San Bernardino County cases. Services include:
- Bench warrant requests
- Modifying misdemeanor summary probation
- Re-enrollment in court-required classes
- Resolving outstanding fines
Additional support will be available through San Bernardino Superior Court Self-Help, which will assist with family law, child support, guardianship, landlord-tenant matters and small claims procedures.
The Riverside County Public Defender’s Office will also be on-site offering record-clearing assistance for Riverside County cases.
San Bernardino County departments will provide health care resources, dental care, behavioral health support, employment services, child support assistance and public benefits. Participating departments include Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, the San Bernardino County Behavioral Health Department, San Bernardino County Child Support Services Department, San Bernardino County Public Health Department’s Dental Unit, San Bernardino County Human Resources Department and the San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department.
The free event is open to the public, with advance registration required for Mobile Court services due to limited availability.

Family Fish & Wildlife Festival returns to Prado Regional Park June 13 for hands-on fishing workshops, live demos, food and more
Join Regional Parks for the fourth annual Family Fish & Wildlife Festival at Prado Regional Park on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for this family-friendly event that provides hands-on fishing workshops with fishing supplies provided, live demonstrations, animal exhibits, food booths, live music and more.
Activities include archery lessons, games, face painting, arts and crafts, biking and more.
We encourage anglers and all attendees to bring their own chairs, food and snacks and spend the day with us. Food trucks will be on-site for hungry appetites as well.
All ages are welcome! Leashed pets are welcome too!

Regional Parks host lawn games and free snow cone activity at Glen Helen
Join San Bernardino County Regional Parks for a day of classic lawn games and refreshing snow cones. Bring the whole family and challenge each other to cornhole, giant Jenga, sack races and more at Glen Helen Regional Park on Tuesday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Afterwards, cool off with a delicious snow cone in your favorite flavor! As we enjoy our icy treats, we’ll also explore the science behind how snow cones are made, learning about the fascinating process of temperature, states of matter and how ice transforms into the perfect summer snack.

Make a splash with the Catch the Wave Summer Reading Program
The San Bernardino County Library is ready to make waves this summer with the launch of its annual Summer Reading Program (SRP), “Catch the Wave!” running June 8 through Aug. 2 at library branches across the county.
Readers of all ages are invited to dive into a summer packed with books, activities and shore-to-please events designed to keep minds active and imaginations swimming all season long. From toddlers to adults, participants can log reading, reel in prizes and ride the tide of discovery through free programs and hands-on experiences.
Participants can register beginning June 8 through the library’s Beanstack portal or at their local branch library.
“This year’s Summer Reading Program invites the community to surf into stories, explore new horizons and ‘seas’ the day through reading and learning,” said County Librarian Melanie Orosco. “Whether you’re flipping pages by the pool or diving into a new genre, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
Throughout the summer, library branches will host a wave of free events and educational entertainment, including:
- Live performances and interactive shows
- Family storytimes and themed programs
- Teen and adult engagement events
- Reading challenges and prize opportunities
The SRP helps prevent summer learning loss while encouraging lifelong literacy, creativity and community connection. Families are encouraged to “shell-e-brate” the season by visiting their local library and participating in programs designed to make reading part of every summer adventure.

Summer swim season continues at Glen Helen and Yucaipa swim complexes through Labor Day
Regional Parks is excited to welcome everyone back to the Glen Helen and Yucaipa swim facilities this summer. The 2026 swim season schedule is as follows:
- June 16-30 (every day except Mondays)
- Fourth of July Weekend: July 3-5
- July 7-31 (closed Mondays)
- Aug. 1-30 (Saturday and Sundays only)
- Labor Day Weekend: Sept. 5-7
Park and swim facility admission fees are separate. Park admission is $10 per vehicle Monday through Friday and $15 per vehicle on weekends and holidays. Holiday weekends include Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Swim ticket prices (now includes waterslide access)
- Weekdays and weekends (non-holidays) Daily: $15 per person
- Holidays, holiday weekends: $20 per person
- (Example of a holiday weekend is if the holiday is on a Friday, the holiday price also applies to the Saturday and Sunday that follows. If the holiday is on a Monday, the holiday price also applies to the Saturday and Sunday that leads up to the Monday holiday.)
- Children under age three (3) are free.
- Family 4-pack $55 (does not apply to children under the age of 3 because their admission is free)
- Family 4-pack not available for purchase on holidays and special events.
Waterslide height requirement
- Must be at least 48″ (inches) tall to ride the slides.
Swim entry is first-come, first-served, and reservations are not accepted. Visitors are encouraged to arrive as early as possible. The swim complexes may reach capacity early in the morning. The park opens at 7:30 a.m., and visitors are welcome to wait in line before the complex opens at 10 a.m.
Once all the wristbands are sold for the day, no new visitors will be allowed inside. Only service animals are allowed inside the swim complexes. No grills are allowed in the swim complexes. Swimmers who have wristbands may exit and re-enter the complex throughout the day until the pool closes at 4 p.m.
Yucaipa Swim Complex cabanas
No online or call-ahead reservations are accepted. Check availability at the swim complex on the day of the visit. Reservations and payment are accepted on the day of the visit at Yucaipa Regional Park’s pool facility on a first-come, first-served basis.
Weekends are considered Saturday and Sunday. Depending on what day a holiday falls on, holiday weekends may include a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and/or Monday.
Three (3) small picnic shelters with table and grill are available:
- Daily (excluding holidays, holiday weekends and special events): $50/day
- Daily on holidays, holiday weekends and special events: $100/day

County Library seeking car enthusiasts for “Read, Write, and Cruise” Route 66 Centennial Car Show
Car enthusiasts and community members across the High Desert are invited to rev up their engines for the Read, Write, and Cruise Car Show, rolling into the Hesperia Branch Library parking lot in celebration of the 100th anniversary of historic Route 66.
The event, hosted by the San Bernardino County Library, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a high-energy, family-friendly event that brings together chrome, culture and community all in one place.
With 100 total exhibit spaces available, vehicle registration is now open. Car enthusiasts are encouraged to claim their spot early. The library is currently accepting applications from participants showcasing hot rods, classic cars and off-road builds, with free entry for vehicle exhibitors.
Registration is open through June 12 — or until all spaces are sold out, whichever comes first.
“Celebrating Route 66’s centennial gives us a unique opportunity to connect history, culture and community in a meaningful way,” said County Library Events Coordinator Jenni McCormick. “Read, Write, and Cruise brings together a shared passion for automotive culture while highlighting the library as a place for learning, creativity and connection.”
Attendees can expect a show-stopping lineup of vehicles — from polished classics to rugged off-roaders — alongside live entertainment, community vendors and interactive activities for all ages.
Guests are also invited to explore library resources and discover programs that keep the community learning and engaged all year long.
More than just a car show, Read, Write, and Cruise puts the County Library in the driver’s seat of innovative programming — where horsepower meets brainpower in celebration of Route 66’s legendary legacy.
The show will be open to the public at no charge and will feature up to 100 cars, along with music, food, vendors and prizes.
