The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) was recently featured on the Southern California Business Report with host Yvette Walker, where DBH leaders discussed key behavioral health services, suicide prevention efforts and how community members can take an active role in supporting wellness across the county.
Representing the department were:
- Miranda Canseco-Ochoa, public relations and community outreach manager
- Maribel Gutierrez, community, engagement and equity services deputy director
Together, they offered insight into DBHโs mission to increase access to behavioral health services, strengthen community partnerships and reduce stigma.
Canseco-Ochoa emphasized the departmentโs role in connecting residents to essential care.
โWe serve as the bridge between our department services and the community. We ensure the community knows these services are available, how to access them and ultimately has the comfort level needed to engage in care,โ said Canseco-Ochoa.
Gutierrez highlighted the importance of making services accessible and barrier-free.
โPeople get into crisis sometimes and donโt know what to do. Our community crisis centers help remove those barriers and make it as easy as possible for people to know services are available and understand how to access them,โ said Gutierrez.
During the interview, the DBH team also discussed:
- The Office of Suicide Prevention, which provides free community trainings and awareness-building initiatives.
- The countyโs fentanyl awareness campaign, including efforts to distribute naloxone to prevent opioid overdose deaths.
- How residents can become Behavioral Health Champions by learning about available resources and sharing them within their networks.
- The departmentโs countywide outreach efforts and recent Mental Health Month events designed to foster connection, wellness and community participation.
The interview provides an in-depth look at how DBH is addressing the growing need for behavioral health support and empowering residents to be part of the solution.
