San Bernardino County Animal Care reached another milestone in its partnership with Wings of Rescue, sending 31 dogs on its sixth rescue flight.
With this latest flight, a total of 71 dogs have been transported through the partnership, giving shelter pets new opportunities to find loving homes while helping create additional capacity at county animal shelters.
This flight was made possible in part by the outpouring of support from community members who stepped forward to serve as short-term fosters before the transport. By opening their homes and providing temporary care, these fosters gave dogs a safe, comfortable place to stay as they prepared for their journey. Thanks to their support, Animal Care was able to include more dogs on this flight than on any previous Wings of Rescue transport.
“This really is a culmination of the hard work of our staff, building relationships with rescues across the nation and with the Wings of Rescue Organization,” said Acting Director Janki Patel, San Bernardino County Department of Public Health.
Wings of Rescue is a national nonprofit dedicated to transporting pets from overcrowded shelters and disaster-impacted areas to safe havens where they have increased opportunities for adoption. Animals travel aboard fully pressurized aircraft alongside the flight crew, with their safety and comfort prioritized throughout the journey.
The sixth flight builds on Animal Care’s growing partnership with Wings of Rescue and reflects the department’s continued commitment to saving lives, reducing shelter overcrowding and connecting pets with opportunities to find loving homes.
Animal Care is also grateful to Animals aRe First Fund (ARFF) for its continued support of rescue transports, including providing hard crates that help ensure dogs can travel safely and comfortably.
