Southern California’s next big earthquake can happen at any moment. That’s why the Board of Supervisors urges all county residents and businesses to be earthquake-ready and participate in the Great ShakeOut exercise at 10:19 a.m. this coming Thursday, Oct. 19.
County emergency teams will use the ShakeOut as an opportunity to test the county’s response capabilities. County residents are encouraged to participate in earthquake drills at work, school or home. Ideas on how to participate and register can be found at www.shakeout.org/california.
After the ShakeOut, bring the entire family to the San Bernardino County Museum for the annual ShakeOut Earthquake and Emergency Preparedness Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. Local businesses and county departments will hand out candy, goodies and emergency preparedness information as kids and families walk through the parking lot dressed in costumes.
This free event offers residents the opportunity to learn how to prepare themselves, their families, their homes and their neighborhoods for wildfires, earthquakes and other natural disasters. The day will also feature hands-on preparedness demonstrations, expert speakers, resources and emergency supplies at our partner booths.
