This year’s theme was “Family Fun Fest,” creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness as families gathered to honor their reunification journey.
The day began with excited children receiving backpacks filled with goody bags, setting a cheerful tone for the celebration. Families gathered for inspiring speeches from distinguished leaders, including Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., County Assistant Executive Officer Diane Rundles and San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge Lynn M. Poncin. Their heartfelt messages praised the families’ perseverance and dedication, recognizing their achievements in overcoming challenges and their commitment to their families.
Following the speeches, families enjoyed a variety of carnival games, including the ring toss, cornhole and tin can alley. Laughter filled the air as both children and parents participated in the fun. A carnival-themed photo booth provided opportunities for families to capture joyful memories. Volunteers and staff members from CFS were on hand to assist with the games, fostering an atmosphere of support and community among all attendees.
Families were called to the stage to share their reunification stories. CFS Assistant Director Mia Moore, along with the office of 5th District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., presented each family with a certificate recognizing their hard work and commitment to reunification. After the presentation of certificates, CFS Assistant Director Mia Moore gave closing remarks, emphasizing, “The journey to reunification can be challenging, yet these families have made it. They have pressed through and demonstrated unwavering strength, fortitude and determination.”
Beyond being a day of fun, the Families Matter event was a meaningful celebration of the dedication and resilience that family reunification entails. As these families step into new beginnings, the event showcased the strength of unity and the hope that accompanies each reunification journey.
