San Bernardino County Department of Public Health reached an important milestone with the successful launch of Epic Community Connect and MyChart, hosted by Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC).

The transition to Epic Community Connect provides Public Health staff with an integrated electronic health record system designed to support patient care, streamline workflows and improve access to health information across participating Public Health services.

Public Health also launched MyChart, a secure online patient portal that gives patients greater access to their health information and makes it easier to stay connected with their care team.

“This is an exciting milestone for Public Health. Bringing Epic to our health centers gives our teams better tools to provide an enhanced experience for the patients and families we serve,” said Janki Patel, acting director of Public Health. “This implementation is a great example of collaboration. Public Health and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center came together around a shared goal, connecting care and using our collective expertise to better serve our community.”

The successful launch was the result of extensive planning, coordination and collaboration across Public Health. Teams from Clinic Operations, Revenue Cycle, California Children’s Services, Enhanced Care Management, Community Health Workers, Communicable Diseases, and Compliance and Fiscal Administration helped the department prepare for the transition.

As the Epic Community Connect host, ARMC extended its Epic platform and provided technical build, training and go-live support for Public Health. ARMC’s Epic and technical teams, under the leadership of ARMC’s Chief Information and Digital Transformation Officer Andrea Daugherty, worked in close collaboration with Public Health staff to achieve a successful go-live for the site. The launch is the culmination of a multiyear effort that began in 2023, reflecting the dedication of ARMC and Public Health teams over time.

“As the host of its first Epic Community Connect site, ARMC is proud to extend its Epic environment to Public Health,” said ARMC Chief Executive Officer Andrew Goldfrach, FACHE. “This strengthens the connection between Public Health and ARMC, helping to better understand the care patients receive and to coordinate the care they deserve, in support of our shared vision of one patient, one record across San Bernardino County.”

This implementation represents more than a technology upgrade. Epic and MyChart provide Public Health with new opportunities to improve coordination, strengthen the patient experience and make it easier for residents to engage with their health care.
