March is Social Worker Appreciation Month, a time to honor and recognize the unsung heroes working tirelessly to uplift the lives of vulnerable populations.
Social workers are compassionate advocates of change and play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of children, families and older adults.
The theme for Social Worker Appreciation Month 2024 from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is Empowering Social Workers.
During the month of March, San Bernardino County in alignment with the NASW will raise awareness and support for social work professionals, particularly those in Children and Family Services (CFS), the Department of Aging and Adult Services-Public Guardian (DAAS-PG) and the Department of Behavioral Health. Children and Family Services
San Bernardino County’s Children and Family Services (CFS) is on the front lines, safeguarding the welfare of children and supporting families facing challenges. Social workers within CFS are entrusted with the crucial task of ensuring that children grow up in safe and nurturing environments. They intervene in cases of abuse, neglect and family crises, working diligently to reunify families when possible and providing alternative care when necessary. Social Worker Appreciation Month offers a unique opportunity to recognize CFS social workers’ commitment to fostering healthier and happier families throughout the county.

Department of Aging and Adult Services-Public Guardian
San Bernardino County’s Department of Aging and Adult Services-Public Guardian (DAAS-PG) is instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for older adults and individuals with disabilities. DAAS-PG social workers work with individuals and families to develop care plans, connect them with community services and advocate for their rights. DAAS-PG social workers play a crucial role in preventing elder abuse and addressing issues related to housing, healthcare and social isolation. Social Worker Appreciation Month gives the communities of San Bernardino County a chance to recognize the impact these professionals have on the lives of older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Department of Behavioral Health
San Bernardino County’s Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) provides mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illnesses and/or substance abuse issues. DBH social workers serve in a variety of roles within the department as they support mental health and substance use disorder programs. DBH celebrates National Social Worker Month and highlights the amazing and dedicated work of social workers across the county.
