On March 7 and 21, San Bernardino County Children and Family Services (CFS) hosted its annual Prom Extravaganza in Victorville and San Bernardino. The events provided high school juniors and seniors in foster care with essential resources to help them prepare for one of the most memorable moments of high school. Organized by the CFS Independent Living Program (ILP), Prom Extravaganza is designed to ensure youth in foster care can participate in prom with confidence and support.

Attendees received professional beauty and grooming services, including haircuts, hairstyling and makeup applications, provided by on-site beauticians and barbers from Victor Valley College Cosmetology School, Bridges Beauty, Studio B Barbershop and Salon Success Academy, all of whom generously donated their time and expertise to help each youth look and feel their best.

The event also included interactive presentations that provided helpful tips on finding affordable formalwear and budgeting for prom expenses. These sessions not only prepared youth for prom, but also equipped them with life skills to support their transition into adulthood.

Additionally, youth had the opportunity to connect with college programs, support services and community organizations, providing them with resources, guidance and a support system committed to their success.

Prom Extravaganza is more than a time to get ready for prom โ€” itโ€™s an opportunity to build confidence, create positive memories and ensure youth feel supported during important life moments. It is one of many initiatives led by San Bernardino County CFS to empower youth as they transition into adulthood. Through programs like ILP, the department continues to provide resources that encourage independence, self-expression and a sense of belonging.
