Love was in the air at the San Bernardino County Recorder-County Clerk offices as they welcomed couples for the inaugural “May the Fourth Be with You” wedding event hosted by San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Josie Gonzales on May 4.
Couples gathered to celebrate their unions during a one-of-a-kind ceremony inspired by Star Wars. The themed ceremony room remained at capacity throughout the morning, with appointments booked in advance and additional visitors arriving to enjoy the experience.
Couples exchanged vows surrounded by themed decor while costumed characters entertained guests and posed for photos. Many participants joined in the spirit of the event by dressing as fan-favorite characters such as the Mandalorian, while others added subtle themed touches to their attire.
“This event is only a glimpse into other themes that we are looking to launch,” said Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Josie Gonzales. “We saw an incredible turnout and so much joy from our couples and their families. It showed how meaningful and memorable public service can be when we create opportunities like this.”
During the event, the Recorder-County Clerk division issued 44 marriage licenses and performed 18 civil ceremonies, reflecting a strong turnout and enthusiastic participation from the community.
Guests described the event as unforgettable and praised the welcoming atmosphere and attention to detail. The celebration transformed a traditional government service into a lively community moment.
Looking ahead, the office is preparing for one of its busiest times of the year, Halloween. Historically the second busiest day for marriages for the department, and with the holiday falling on a Saturday this year, the office is partnering with San Bernardino County Regional Parks to host Halloween- themed marriages at Calico Ghost Town on October 31. More details to come.
Residents are reminded that marriage services are offered year-round including at historic sites on special occasions. Please visit https://arc.sbcounty.gov/marriage/ to learn more.
