Rene holds Clara, a former foster kitten who is now a cherished member of her family.

Clara’s journey began when she arrived at the San Bernardino County Devore Animal Shelter as a fragile three-week-old, bottle-fed kitten, small enough to fit in one hand and completely dependent on the dedicated shelter staff who first cared for her.

After several days, Clara was placed with a loving foster mom, Rene, who continued her care with patience, warmth and endless love.

As Clara blossomed and learned to play, purr and trust, something special happened. Rene realized she couldn’t imagine life without her and recently made Clara an official, permanent member of her family.

Stories like Clara’s are only possible because of the incredible community members who open their homes to animals in need. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to foster, or if you’re looking for a meaningful way to support shelter pets, contact the Animal Care foster team.

Fostering can be as flexible as you need it to be, with options that range from short-term care to extended support depending on what works best for you.
